Davidson Creek is a tributary of the larger Yegua Creek within the Brazos River watershed. Starting in 2002, the lower half of Davidson Creek was identified as impaired for elevated concentrations of Escherichia coli (E. coli). This means that bacteria levels were consistently measured above the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) applicable standard for recreational activities that may involve ingesting water, such as swimming or wading.
Once impaired, action to restore water quality is required. Funding is being provided to TWRI by the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB) through the State Nonpoint Source Grant Program to address this need. Funds will be used to develop a voluntary, stakeholder-driven Watershed Protection Plan (WPP) within the Davidson Creek Watershed. TWRI will partner with local stakeholders and facilitate meetings where TWRI will provide a technical analysis of the watershed allowing stakeholders to strategizing actionable management measures that can be implemented within the community to improve bacteria levels in water.
Current Goals
- Coordinate the delivery of at least one educational workshop
- Review existing data and connect and inform stakeholders about the local water quality and the WPP development process
- Organize and hosts WPP development meetings. In addition, providing information needed for stakeholders to make informed decisions about recommended best management practices during meetings and assist with the document development
